As I talk more about where I feel like my faith took root, my mind goes back to Sunday school in that small country church. Opposition church was a place where multiple generations of my family attended. It was a church small enough that everyone felt like family regardless.  While the congregation may have been low in number, the feeling of love was immeasurable.

As a kid, Sunday school was the highlight. We would go to our classes and learn all the stories about Moses, Noah, and Jonah courtesy of the flannel board. Who remembers that? I remember for Christmas one year my sister Tracy and I received a chalkboard and at the time our class was needing something like that to write on, so we donated it to them. That chalkboard was the beginning of learning and memorizing scripture for me. My teacher’s name was Vickie, and she taught me many things including the 23rd Psalm. Vickie was a staple within the church, full of laughter, optimism and had a beautiful alto singing voice. She loved children and that was evident in her character. She influenced my life in a way that can’t be put into words because she taught me how to hide scripture in my heart. She helped me memorize Gods instruction for my life. Only later would I recognize the value of her guidance.

In 1990 I left home to go to the Air Force. I was a scared, nervous, and unsure young lady who had signed up for this adventure, not knowing exactly what lay ahead. It was in my bunk in basic training that I recalled the 23 Psalm. I recited it over and over again until the peace of God surrounded me and calmed my fears. At that moment, God gave me the ability to go back in time, search my heart and bring His Word to the forefront of my mind. I have thought back to that moment many times over the years and I understand only through Gods divine plan was Vickie put in my path.

That is the value of people who are willing to share their life investing in others.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
