Victory In Jesus

My grandparents sat on the back row at church. Grandpa (Pa) sat in the outside seat with grandma sitting next to him. Grandma sang loud while Pa dozed only to be awakened by grandma’s elbow. She would say Layton, “wake up”! Pa was a quiet, short man, smoked a pipe, meek in spirit but had a sense of humor that came out in small subtle doses. He had a white cat that he loved. It had 1 green eye and 1 blue eye. That cat was as unique as he was. Grandma (Angie) was a tall lady, gentle in spirit and could squeeze the phooey out of you with her hugs. They were quite the couple.
Grandma loved to sing and did it often with the grandkids on the front porch. They had a porch that spanned the distance across the front of the house, had two porch swings, and multiple other chairs for seating. Back in the day people gathered on the front porch to talk and spent time together. Just so happens this porch was also for singing. One of my fondest memories was when she would sing “Victory in Jesus” with us kids. We knew every verse by heart. As I picture her in my mind’s eye, I see a lady that was truly worshipping the Lord in song. A lady that was passing the love of Jesus onto her grandkids.
I wonder what my grandkids will remember and say about me one day. Did I share the love of Jesus with them, either through song or testimony about my life. Did I live out my faith in front of them. Did I invest my time and wisdom into them. I have some big shoes to fill! My grandparents did all those things for me!
Psalm 145:4 One generation shall praise thy works to another and shall declare thy mighty acts.
