Quiet Time

Quiet time with the Lord is necessary for growth, for hearing from God, and for sensing His direction. I enjoy this time in the morning, when I’m the only one up, no stirring of others….until now. Yet while everyone still sleeps, there are the never-ending distractions of everything else that take my attention away from my thoughts, my meditation, and my reading. It’s the refrigerator that makes that annoying fan clanging noise, that doesn’t happen all the time, seemingly happens in the morning while I’m reading. Or how about one of the many wiener dogs that need a drink of water, so they make their way from the carpeted living room to the hard wood floor, across the kitchen at a snail’s pace as each paw clip claps for what seems like 5 minutes to the water bowl where the lapping of water commences. Only to be repeated by the other 4 !!! Or how about Joe’s alarm clock that goes off at prayer time. He shuts it off only to hit another 6 times every 10 minutes until he finally decides “now” its time to get up. Oh, and we can’t forget my phone starts to ding at every notification that came in since last night because it has been on “DO NOT DISTURB”. So now its 7 am…..I’ve been distracted 12 times. I haven’t heard from God, I’m frustrated, I close my Bible, and I start my day. Sound familiar?
We must be intentional about hearing from God. I WANT TO HEAR FROM GOD! Find that quiet place, get up an hour earlier. Look for ways that you can sit in the stillness of peace. What God has for you that day will be worth your effort. To be able to sense His direction, we must slow down, quiet our hearts and listen to the way His spirit communicates. Obedience now ensures freedom later!
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58
